About Ventures

Ventures is a Seattle-based nonprofit, founded in 1995, that empowers aspiring entrepreneurs with limited resources and unlimited potential to improve their lives through small business ownership. We provide access to business training, capital, coaching, incubation, and hands-on learning opportunities for entrepreneurs. We serve those in our community for whom traditional business development services are out of reach, with a focus on women, people of color, immigrants, and individuals with low incomes. Our ultimate goal is to support individuals to increase their income potential, achieve long-term financial stability, and provide for their families, and enrich their communities through small business ownership.

Ventures strives to provide impactful programs while maintaining a healthy work-life balance and a positive, team-oriented atmosphere. Our team typically consists of 10-20 employees, plus a corps of contractors and volunteers, as well as an engaged Board of Directors. We’re a highly collaborative team of mission-driven individuals who believe in impact and delivering high quality programs.

Position Overview

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will implement strategies to drive public awareness of our mission and our programs. The primary goals of this position are to: 1) increase financial support for Ventures through donations, grants, and volunteer engagement; 2) to ensure that low-income individuals in our region have access to accurate information about the resources available to them through Ventures; and 3) to increase awareness of Ventures and our mission.

 


Responsibilities

Manage and Promote Ventures’ Brand (30%)

  • Champion Ventures’ brand and visual identity. Serve as a brand ambassador, helping others better understand and articulate the Ventures mission and brand
  • Manage all public-facing content, including writing and editing blog posts, email newsletters, announcements and messages; social media posts; mailers, and videos, etc.
  • Maintain Ventures’ brand voice, style, and stone across all existing and new messaging, and print and online materials
  • Equip staff, board, and volunteers to use the brand according to brand guidelines
  • Increase organizational capacity to complete marketing/communications projects: maintain collateral templates, train staff on relevant tools, find ways to increase the sustainability of systems
  • Identify and develop target audience personas to solve pain points and answer questions
  • Understand all existing and new programs; monitor competitors, be aware of changes in microenterprise landscape and news, as well as conditions affecting entrepreneurs in our client demographic
  • Develop and manage editorial calendars and organizational workflows
  • Identify client success stories that support our brand and facilitate circulation of these stories across multiple channels
  • Develop, manage and execute comprehensive event experiences including, pre-event marketing, tabling display, on-site engagement strategy and specialized programs that drives awareness and acquisition of new leads

Conduct Program Outreach (30%)

  • Develop and implement regular outreach for BBC program promotion, including: marketing materials, speaking engagements, correspondence, etc.
  • Create an outreach structure with the Coaching Team to recruit more BBC graduates into advance services, including but not limited to loans and financial services
  • Participate in opportunities to discuss or advertise our programs to external parties such as community partners, media outlets, funders, etc.
  • Attend all BBCs to advertise upcoming opportunities and the Advanced Services process

Manage Ventures’ Collateral and Assets (10%)

  • Develop, design, and produce timely, compelling, and relevant marketing materials for all departments, which may include postcards, posters, brochures, one-sheets
  • Grow Ventures’ professional photo bank
  • Maintain and update print collateral
  • Design and install posters and environmental displays for our retail store, the Ventures Marketplace

Social Media, Email and Website Management (20%)

  • Serve as primary MailChimp administrator: enforce branding and messaging conventions; copyedit all emails, configure settings and templates; troubleshoot problems
  • Create and execute email automation strategies including triggered email campaigns
  • Build, clean, and maintain 5 email listsī‚ˇMinimize list decay and unsubscribes while increasing the productivity of our email sends
  • A/B test subject lines, content, send times, and more, to maximize email effectiveness
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance of social channels
  • Orchestrate a lively social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and our blog) to increase public awareness, donor acquisition and stewardship, and program enrollment
  • Serve as website administrator: make content and format updates; manage information architecture, fix and resolve errors and bugs
  • Build, test, and deploy landing pagesī‚ˇManage integrations, plugins, and Google Analytics tracking

Communications Strategy (10%)

  • Design multi-channel integrated marketing campaigns to achieve program, development, and advocacy goals
  • Collaborate with staff to initiate projects that help each department meet their goals through marketing/communications
  • Implement marketing/communications projects, including managing: scheduling, meeting facilitation, timelines, goal-setting, regular status updates, etc.
