The Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center (HSDC) is seeking a Director to lead the Audiology Clinic in administrative operations and to support direct services. This position will play a key role in defining, implementing and managing the long-term vision, financial strategy and direction of the Audiology Department. The successful candidate thrives on a holistic approach towards their clients’ hearing needs, including communication strategies, self-advocacy, and assistive listening devices, in addition to traditional amplification options.

The Audiology Department is a close-knit, process-minded team environment; staff collaborates to best serve clients across all ages, income levels, and cultures. We work with community partners to advocate for clients and their hearing healthcare needs.

The Director of Audiology reports to the Executive Director, directly supervises two staff (audiologist and scheduler), is a key member of HSDC’s Equity & Leadership Team, and works closely with the Executive Director and other Program Directors who provide these services: speech and language therapy; assistance, information, advocacy and interpreting for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; birth to 5 years early childhood education.

The mission of Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center (HSDC) is to foster inclusive and accessible communities through communication, advocacy, and education. We do this by removing communication barriers every day.

This position is located in HSDC’s Seattle office. Our Seattle office currently utilizes a hybrid onsite/remote model during the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Safe Initiative; some duties may be performed remotely, per public health guidance; some onsite presence is required.

Primary Responsibilities
• Analyze the current state of the Audiology Department and devise an actionable plan to better integrate its services with the other services HSDC provides
• Lead the Audiology Department in improving inclusivity and accessibility for our diverse clientele, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement within the clinic and implementing processes to improve the clinic’s efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability
• Ensure high professional standards; be self-motivated, collaborate with other HSDC team members, make sound timely decisions
• Effectively manage Audiology daily operations and staff (retention, development, recruitment)
• Foster, develop and maintain strong positive relationships with stakeholders and community members

• Support fitting, dispensing and maintaining hearing aids utilizing evidence-based practices, including appropriate verification and validation measures
• Experience with or willingness to learn third party processes for hearing aid funding, including state and private insurance benefits, vocational rehabilitation, labor and industry, grants and nonprofit collaborations and partnerships to help clients access resources and hearing technology
• Demonstrated cultural competency working with a diverse, often non-English speaking client population, and dedication to approaching clinical processes with an equity lens. Ability to work comfortably with interpreters of a variety of spoken languages as well as American Sign Language, and dedication to improving communication access for all clients
• This position may require occasional work on evenings or weekends

• Degree and/or training (minimum 5 years) in Speech-Language-Hearing discipline
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology & current WA State Audiology License preferred
• At least 3 recent years of clinical experience, 5+years preferred, including recent experience with diagnostic evaluation and hearing aid evaluation, selection, and dispensing for adult and pediatric clients
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture preferred
• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• A positive attitude and active contributing team member
• Proven computer skills, including Microsoft Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Publisher)

This is a full time, exempt position.
