Position Summary:

The Director of Marketing is responsible for leading the Marketing & Communications Department and directing the marketing and brand equity of Business Impact NW. This position includes responsibility for marketing funnel management, media campaigns, mission-driven event support, and highlighting client achievements and organization impact.  Leading the Department, this position works to market and promote the programs and operations of Business Impact NW - a nonprofit dedicated to growing small businesses that create jobs in underserved communities. This position reports to the Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer and works closely with Program and Fundraising staff.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Management

  • Oversee, implement and support all marketing and communications activities, reporting directly to the COO
  • Work collaboratively, create buy-in, and plan strategy with strong team members from the executive, programs, fundraising, and lending teams
  • Manage marketing/advertising budget
  • Work to advance the fulfillment of the organization’s strategic goals
  • Oversee and work closely with Communications Administrator

    Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and manage annual communications plan, marketing plan, and editorial calendar
  • Understand marketing to nonprofit audiences: clients as well as funders
  • Manage & implement newsletter, social media, blog, press releases and more with the support of communications administrator
  • Create content & copy based on program and fundraising goals
  • Execute and manage established marketing funnel
  • Maintain and grow positive client and community relationships through outreach, client interviews and blog story creation, networking strategies, outside advertising and event representation
  • Oversee, manage, and ensure brand integrity within all communications, marketing, and earned media


  • Coordinate and execute all marketing, ticket sales, collateral, and design for 4+ major events per year
  • Liaise with program and fundraising departments to ensure event goal fulfillment


  • Maintain and update website to deliver up-to-date, engaging content
  • Utilize SEO to improve online presence
  • Utilize Google Analytics, Bing Webmaster, and social media/newsletter analysis tools to provide user data and inform/implement future marketing decisions


  • Work with the executive team and all department heads to ensure communications and collateral materials are meeting the needs of the organization
  • Manage graphic design of all collateral and materials for outreach and events



  • 5+ years of experience with Marketing and Communications
  • 3+ years management experience
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Strong knowledge of layout, design, branding, and marketing
  • Strong Adobe Creative Suite and Wordpress skills
  • Strong computer skills; adept in use of technology
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp or Constant Contact
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, solve problems and work hands-on to complete tasks
  • Strong writing skills – experience with writing blogs, flyers, and website copy
  • Strong interpersonal communication & customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to gain confidence of, and inspire, stakeholders
  • Experience working for or with non-profit organizations in a marketing or communications capacity a plus
  • Experience working with diverse communities and/or fluency in mupltiple cultures or languages a plus


    Schedule & Location:

  • 40 hours per week, 8:30am-5pm
  • Currently Remote; will be in-person when safe to resume in-office work
  • 1437 S Jackson Street, Seattle WA 98144


    Compensation Package:

    Salary of $58,000 - 64,000 Full Time, DOE.
