Working under the supervision of the Procurement Managers, the Supplier Diversity Specialist is responsible for supporting and focusing on supplier diversity and business development activities, driving growth and engagement with internal stakeholders and external parties.  This person leads, builds, and operationalizes Fred Hutch’s supplier diversity strategy, keeps a strategic focus on reaching goals and sustaining the strategy, and listens to and collaborates with internal departments and local, small and diverse suppliers and supplier councils.


  • Operationalizes formal supplier diversity strategy which has been in development for the previous 12 months after many years of informal efforts
  • Leads the strategy to the next stage of development, increasing awareness of small and diverse vendors, while finding opportunities to grow the strategy
  • Monitors and validates spend by department and category
  • Prepares and maintains reports for internal and external stakeholders in order to monitor compliance and results
  • Leverages technology to increase utilization of small and diverse suppliers
  • Continually educates internal customers and stakeholders about supplier diversity through presentations and training sessions
  • Guides development of learning and communication strategies to support small diverse business awareness and engagement
  • Responsible for internal- and external-facing supplier diversity website content
  • Coordinates compliance reviews on small business subcontracting plans
  • Mentors small and diverse businesses, encouraging them to register and/or certify themselves
  • Collaborates on strategy and communication with Fred Hutch’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI)
  • As needed, prepares low dollar purchase orders using PeopleSoft. This includes verifying product, price, quantity, and ensuring purchase order limits are not exceeded and meet company requirements
  • Maintains knowledge of administrative support functions, remote work practices, procedures related to records management, personnel policies and administrative procedures


Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, or equivalent years of experience
  • 1-2 years of procurement experience, preferably in supplier diversity
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Teams)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to analyze data, produce reports and track metrics
  • Capability to influence at senior levels in organizations (peers, customers, partners and within and outside of Fred Hutch)
  • Capacity to network with a variety of people both internally and externally
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Project management skills helpful
  • Ability to work remotely
