about the GSBA scholarship fund

The GSBA Scholarship Fund awards educational scholarships to Washington State LGBTQ and allied
students who exhibit leadership potential, demonstrate strong academic abilities, and are actively
involved in school and community organizations. Our scholars represent a diverse group of students
who have dreams of making our community and the world a better place, and each of them possesses
the skills, talents, and dedication to make those dreams a reality.

GSBA realizes that today's students are tomorrow's leaders and is committed to supporting our
community's future leaders by providing financial resources, role-modeling and hope to outstanding
LGBTQ and allied students, many who have no traditional means of support.

In the 25 years of the GSBA Scholarship Fund, we have awarded over $2 million to over 300 students.
In 2015, we supported 48 scholars with $350,000 in educational scholarships.

  • “Each year, I hope the decision of whom to grant scholarships to would get easier but it doesn't. There are amazingly talented students and leaders from very diverse backgrounds with fascinating dreams to fulfill ahead of them. Sadly for every scholarship we are able to grant there are 3-4 who are just as worthy. It is an emotional process during the interview for both the scholarship committee and the candidates. This is an impactful program for our LGBTQ and Puget Sound community and especially for me. I feel inspired about our community's future given the talent of many of our recipients.”

“I love participating on the GSBA scholarship process because it allows me to connect with my community, support tomorrow’s leaders and meet incredibly talented people in a highly functional environment. I strongly believe in the crucial role education plays in our lives, so focusing on investing in the education of talented and driven members of the LGBT community, gives me the opportunity to shape our future for the better”
