GSBA is thrilled to welcome Shane Kiwini Smith to the role of Marketing and Communications Specialist! With a background in visual design and fine arts and professional certification in communications and design, he is also very excited about joining the team.

“After reading the job posting and researching what GSBA was and how much work they do for queer people, I was ready to dive head-first into a career where I was not only using my design and communications skills, but, actively applying them to elevate my communities and the intersectional communities as well.” Smith said “As I learn the role and meet members of the organization, I’m discovering that the Marketing and Communications Specialist isn’t only about deadlines and emails, it’s truly a support role for GSBA’s communication and design needs – and helping and supporting people excites me.”

Outside of work, the self proclaimed “nerd” has varied hobbies including table top and trading card games, dabbling in coding and game design, co-hosting a not-for-kids podcast about Marvel comics and hanging out with his partner Paul and cat Seymore. You might recognize Shane in a different way too– He’s an actor, having performed on many stages locally in the nine years he has lived in the area, including Village Theatre, Renton Civic Theatre, and Showtunes Theatre Company.

Shane is also excited to spend more time on Capitol Hill where the GSBA offices are located, getting to know our members and visiting the amazing local businesses including one of his favorites- The Elliot Bay Book Company . “It’s gorgeous and a great way to spend an afternoon by yourself or with friends.”
