Stay Informed & Get Alerts
Timely alerts can be critical during flooding events. We recommend signing up for both statewide and local notification systems:
Flood Safety Basics
Flooding can affect both river-adjacent communities and urban areas, including streets, basements, storefronts, and transportation corridors. Combinations of heavy rain, melting snow, and saturated ground can change conditions quickly.
If flooding is possible:
- Know the safest route from your home or business to higher ground.
- Prepare for utility outages and keep emergency supplies accessible.
- If heavy rain continues for hours or days, stay alert to changing conditions.
- Review flood insurance coverage if applicable.
During flooding:
- Follow evacuation instructions immediately if issued.
- Never drive around barricades or through flooded roads.
- Avoid walking or wading through floodwaters.
- Move valuables and equipment to higher ground if it is safe to do so.
After flooding:
- Do not restore electricity if there is flooding damage or if you smell gas.
- Wear protective gear (sturdy boots and gloves) when re-entering affected spaces.
- Discard food and items exposed to floodwater and follow local guidance on water safety.

Road Conditions, Closures, and Travel
Flooding can create sudden road closures, detours, and unsafe driving conditions. Before heading out, check real-time travel impacts and plan alternate routes:
A reminder that can’t be said enough: never drive through flooded areas. Water depth and road damage can be impossible to judge in the moment.
Power & Utility Updates
Also Impacted: Snohomish County
Flooding is also affecting parts of Snohomish County, including elevated river levels and ongoing recovery efforts in some areas. Please continue to follow local guidance and monitor conditions closely. (If you’re in an impacted area, avoid travel unless necessary and keep devices charged in case of outages.)
Ways to Help: Common Donation Needs During Flooding
During flood events, community organizations often need practical supplies and flexible support that can be distributed quickly. Common needs include:
- Non-perishable food and bottled water
- Hygiene items (toothpaste, soap, diapers, wipes)
- Cleaning and recovery supplies (bleach, disinfectant, gloves, contractor bags)
- Flashlights and batteries
- Warm blankets and dry clothing
- Pet food and basic pet supplies
- Gift cards or monetary donations (often the fastest way to meet changing needs)
Local food banks, emergency shelters, and mutual aid groups are often the best places to direct donations as needs evolve. If you’re unsure what’s needed most, consider monetary donations or gift cards so frontline organizations can purchase exactly what’s required.
The American Red Cross always needs your donations, and they are proud GSBA members – DONATE.
