2024 welcomes a huge change in Seattle City Council leadership. Not since 1908 has Seattle had six new City Council members. With this sea of change, Capitol Hill welcomes Joy Hollingsworth. We had a chance to sit down with Councilwoman Hollingsworth last week and talk about the state of Capitol Hill.
Besides the fact that Councilwoman Hollingsworth is delightful to be around—a great listener, thoughtful, smart, good sense of humor, and “joyful”– she is ready to work for you all. She wants to know what life as a small business owner is like on Capitol Hill and she wants to make it better.
We spent the hour talking about the needs of Capitol Hill business owners. We know that you all have been working hard to manage the weight of the world– from COVID recovery to traffic disruptions to a changing economy. The Capitol Hill Business Alliance, while we cannot snap our fingers and make everything better, we can help move the dial. We are here to unify and support all of you.
We want owning and running a business to become joyful again and we know that a little goes a long way. Some of the topics we discussed at our meeting with Councilwoman Hollingsworth were: finding ways to get safety ambassadors on Capitol Hill, improving lighting, and hosting Councilwoman Hollingworth on a walking tour of Capitol Hill so she can get a true sense of what doing business as usual on Capitol Hill really means.
Tell Us What You Need
As the CHBA Manager, I want to hear from you about your needs on the Hill. Your voice informs the direction of our advocacy. To that end, I’m including a brief survey with a few questions about how we can best engage the advocacy and support of our new councilwoman. Please take a few minutes to fill this out and share it back with me.
Stay tuned for more details about how we can continue working together to create a more JOYFUL Capitol Hill.
I look forward to seeing all of you around the neighborhood,
Laura Culberg (she/her)
